Something I Said? / While We Were Sleeping While we were sleeping, the world became a business. Yeah while we slept, somebody sold it all. And when the world went insane, we were laughing. When the world went insane, we were all drunk. While we were sleeping, the world became a business. While we slept, some fucker sold it all... While we were sleeping, the world became a business. Yeah while we slept, somebody sold it all. And when the world went insane, we were laughing. When the world went insane, we were all stoned. (Chorus) But you push / push / push

My Mind Walked Away Turned the TV on, but my mind just walked away. Read the the headline, but my mind just walked away. Little by little, they were chipping away. At little pieces and parts, of you and of me. Hey! My mind just walked away..

Hey Lord! 05:31
Hey Lord! Well I remember everything as if it were yesterday. I remember all those songs we sang and drinks drinks we drank. As we move hand in hand, two by two. But then some will move on, over some dispute. So I sing "Hey! Hey Lord! Lord I'm down here" Kinda like picking up the pieces of a broken mind. You can fit the pieces together but it's just not right.

Room Without A View There's no TV and there's no radio. Just the sound of my friend, and his six string guitar. Late at night, I would pop around, for a couple of beers and a late night jam. From a room, from a room without a view.

St Kilda Skies Fitzroy street is in full bloom, with the drinks, the drugs and the loons. This place has always had a wild wild side, perhaps that's why I fit in fine. From Acland street to girls on Grey, Luna Park and the Esplanade. These are the streets that I call home, no matter how I roam. A night beneath St Kilda skies. One night beneath these sacred skies. A night beneath St Kilda skies.

What The Hell? You don't love her the way I do You don't kiss her where I do You don't touch her where I do Because she don't want you you too What the hell is going on? You don't trust her when she's gone You don't kiss her when the night of long You don't miss her when she's gone Now I know there is something wrong Chorus All I want from her is synchronicity It doesn't seem so hard, apparently You don't kiss her how I do 'cause she don't want want you to Chorus You! walked into my Life !

Find What You Love (and Let It Kill You) Thieves in the kitchen, wolves in the bathroom. In the corner, squatter with his shooting skills. Mind's on a tangent, from where I was heading. Somewhere in the darkness, he's waiting with his madness pills. What gets you high will leave you low. What gets you high gonna leave you low. Find what you love and let it kill you. Find what you love and let it kill you. Low, low, low, low, low

Dance For The Dead Nestled among the trees, silently you lye. With whispering voices, still questioning why. I wonder if you look down and witness, our dance for the dead? You'll probably look and laugh 'cause you're, still out your head. Dance for the dead Dance for the dead You, you're not alone

Fish Food. 05:40
Fish Food With a twist of fate and a turn in the tide. Will I wash ashore or leave it for the currents to decide. Or will we go deeper onto the abyss? To spend the rest of my days as food for the fish. Fish food Fish food Took a walk down to the ocean side. Those screaming souls are driving me wild. The skies, skies are grey. God's in anger, I am afraid but cowardly I smile Fish food Fish food

Shine. 04:27
Shine Only yesterday you said you loved me. Suprise tonight, you're not around. Sing so go, go what makes you happy. Go what makes you shine. Every night, every other night. We scream, scream, fuck and fight. Sing so go, go what makes you happy. Go what makes you shine. Shine, shine on...

Stay Here Now Nobody said life was easy, nobody say anything at all Nobody said this was gonna be easy, nobody said anything at all. So stay here now, stay here with me. Stay with me forever, stay close to me. Hold me in real close, hold me in real tight. Hold me in real close, in the arm's of the night. Into the arms of the night, in the arm's of the night, Into the arms of the night, let's stay clean tonight. Stay here now, stay here with me. Stay clean tonight, stay here with me

My Own Hell. 04:54
My Own Hell I fell, I fell into My own hell

about

The Complaints Department formed in January 2018 in St Kilda, Melbourne, Australia. Having never rehearsed, each gig is truly different from the next. Designed this way as to add an undercurrent of intensity to the shows and forces the band to play an 'in the moment' style and mindset, an energy that can be somewhat lost when a band is overly rehearsed, so I thought I'd do the complete opposite, an exploration of the unknown.

The way I personally see writing a song for this band is to picture in your mind a blank piece of paper, take a pencil and drawing a simple shape with my simple playing. Bringing in melody by adding lyrics, a story, a tale... Then taking this down to a gig and let the musicians fill in the colours. Leaving the audience / listeners with pictures in their minds.
So the music is piano driven but coloured by the skills of the band.

The latest release 'Stay Here Now' was recorded by Loki Lockwood and David Banahan at Christchurch, St Kilda amid the now treacherous Melbourne lockdowns. So on Saturday 6 February 2021 in a dystopian new normal, four men entered the church and sat down to play to a sold out audience.

I hope I haven't bored you all to tears with my wordings, so please let the music do any further talking.

Cheers to all!
Ashton
